SUMMARY:Tahquitz Peak, Out & Back (with a bit of a loop)
DESCRIPTION:Andrew Walls, the original leader of this hike, will be unable to lead it due to a family medical issue. Bill Hoke, a new hike leader, has volunteered to assume leadership of this hike.\nLet’s climb some hills! With the summer heat, we head to Idyllwild to do some hiking.\nThis 9.1 mile round trip hike begins at Humber Park (https://maps.app.goo.gl/CchpfeSTkJtT1SBQ8 ( https://maps.app.goo.gl/CchpfeSTkJtT1SBQ8 )) and climbs ~2350 feet to the Tahquitz Peak fire lookout. We will maintain a moderate-fast pace on average (quick on the flat and downhill, slow on the uphills). Due to the elevation gain and distance, I rate this hike as strenuous. Expect an elevated pulse and respiration rate!\nWe will start at 09:00 at the trailhead and will return to the trailhead at 14:00 or thereabouts. Bring snacks and a lunch to eat while we take in the view at the peak. Hiking poles are recommended to take the strain off of knees and hips. There are no reliable water sources on this trail, so bring water in sufficient quantities to stay hydrated for the entire distance.\nTo park a car at Humber Park you need a permit. These can be obtained at the US Forest Service office in Idyllwild (https://maps.app.goo.gl/85Tb37fQcAQQdvoa9 ( https://maps.app.goo.gl/85Tb37fQcAQQdvoa9 )). You can also use various National Park and State Park passes (details here: https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/sbnf/recarea/?recid=26483 ( https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/sbnf/recarea/?recid=26483 ) ).\nIF THIS IS YOUR FIRST TIME HIKING WITH BILL, PLEASE EMAIL ME AT billhokedata@gmail.com ( mailto:billhokedata@gmail.com ) TO INFORM ME OF YOUR HIKING EXPERIENCE AND CURRENT FITNESS LEVEL.\nTrip details:\n\nAltitude gain: ~2350 feet\nCumulative altitude gain: 2552 feet\nDistance: 9.1 miles\nPace: average 2 MPH\nTerrain: packed trail, some rocks\nObstacles: nothing significant\nDifficulty rating: Strenuous\nMAP: https://caltopo.com/m/TN1PN20 ( https://caltopo.com/m/TN1PN20 )\n\nUse the RSVP form below to register for this hike!\nHIKE LEADER: Andrew Walls (transferred to Bill Hoke)\nHIKE LOCATOR: Humber Park, Idyllwild\nHIKE DATE/TIME: Saturday, September 19, 2026 09:00-14:00\nNote: You must be a current CVHC member to hike with the club! Join Now!\n
