Jeff and his wife have been visitors to the desert for the last 30 years and more recently wintered in Palm Desert for the last seven years. Our summer home is in Eugene, Oregon. Jeff has been mountain biking the Western states for 30 years, backpacking the John Muir Trail and sections of the Pacific Crest Trail more recently. You will find me hiking the Coachella Valley on a weekly basis during the winter months. Jeff prefers more strenuous and challenging hikes with the hope of seeing wildlife and marveling at the incredible beauty of the Coachella Valley.

BEAR CREEK OASIS TRAIL, LA QUINTA COVE

This out and back hike on the Bear Creek Oasis trail leads to an oasis high above the La Quinta Cove. The trail is relatively flat in the first few miles, then steadily gains in elevation to the oasis. The route offers  spectacular panoramic views — on a clear day, you can see the entire Coachella Valley, from Palm Springs to the Salton Sea.

The route has no shade until the oasis. Bring plenty of water and wear sun protection (sunscreen, hat, sunglasses).

Meet at the Bear Creek Oasis Trailhead, near the west end of Calle Tecate, the intersection of Calle Tecate and Avenida Juarez. (Note: there are two parking lots for the La Quinta Cove. We meet at the smaller parking lot. The larger parking lot, at the east end of  Calle Tecate, has a kiosk style restroom.)

Please email Jeff to request participation in the hike and include your phone number.
