Diane and her husband Eric moved to Palm Desert in the Spring of 2024 from east Tennessee. They are year-round residents and are loving being closer to grandchildren who live in the valley! Diane is an avid hiker and backpacker, having led multiple hikes for the Smoky Mountains Hiking Club for many years, and holding a number of leadership positions in that 100 year-old organization. She thru-hiked the John Muir Trail in 2022 and is excited about living closer to the magnificent Sierra Nevadas, as well as exploring all of the hiking opportunities California has to offer!
CEDAR SPRINGS TRAIL TO CEDAR SPRINGS CAMPGROUND
For this 6.5 mile RT hike, we will begin at the Cedar Springs TH on Morris Ranch Road in Mountain Center. We’ll hike through some interesting pastureland before ascending a series of very well-graded switchbacks up to the Pacific Crest Trail junction. Looking back are beautiful views of Garner Valley. At the PCT we will continue on Cedar Springs another mile to the campsite area, with views now to the north and the Coachella Valley. The Cedar Springs campsite area has huge beautiful old cedar trees and a (usually) reliable spring. We’ll have lunch here, then return.

We will meet at St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church at 8am (47535 CA-74, Palm Desert, CA) or at the Cedar Springs Trailhead on Morris Ranch Rd at 8:45am. We can facilitate carpooling from the church, but we will need a couple of volunteers to drive. Please bring at least 2 liters of water, snacks and lunch. Hike size limit: 10.
