Diane and her husband Eric moved to Palm Desert in the Spring of 2024 from east Tennessee. They are year-round residents and are loving being closer to grandchildren who live in the valley! Diane is an avid hiker and backpacker, having led multiple hikes for the Smoky Mountains Hiking Club for many years, and holding a number of leadership positions in that 100 year-old organization. She thru-hiked the John Muir Trail in 2022 and is excited about living closer to the magnificent Sierra Nevadas, as well as exploring all of the hiking opportunities California has to offer!
DEER SPRINGS TO SUICIDE ROCK
This is a great hike starting in Idyllwild at the Deer Springs trailhead. After climbing about 2.3 miles, through manzanita and ribbon wood pine, we’ll take a mile long side trail out to a magnificent granite outcropping called Suicide Rock. Views of Lilly Rock and Tahquitz Peak are noted and well as Garner Valley and Thomas Mountain. Temperatures are expected in the high 80s by the time we descend, but we will have many shade opportunities, and it will be definitely cooler than the valley!
Meet at St Margaret’s Episcopal Church at 47535 Hgwy 74, Palm Desert at 0650 am (to leave promptly at 7am) OR at the Deer Springs TH in Idyllwild at 8am. The leader will have the group Adventure Pass.
