The King Trail to Caramba Overlook!
Between Idyllwild and the Tram there is a network of trails, some of which are no longer maintained. One of these abandoned trails is now called the King trail in honor of John King, owner of the San Jacinto Trail Report (https://sanjacjon.com/ ). John has been restoring the trail by hand.
The King trail starts on the Willow Creek trail about 1 mile north of Saddle junction. The trail wanders across the hills and ridges over to the Caramba overlook. This is an unmaintained trail and the vegetation is trying hard to hide the path. We will have to stay sharp to stay on trail and might have to make our own trail in places. The terrain is rugged with significant barriers from overgrown vegetation.
Long pants and sturdy footwear are strongly recommended. This is an out and back trip with a total distance of ~13 miles. We start and finish at Humber Park. We will start at 08:00 and aim to have lunch at the Caramba Overlook (end of the trail). We should return to Humber park between 3-4:00 PM.
