THOUSAND PALMS TO MOON COUNTRY — FULL
*** This hike is full. Please consider other hikes on the calendar. ***
This loop hike starts in the Thousand Palms oasis which is north of Highway 10 in the Coachella Valley Preserve. From the trailhead, we’ll enter a level, sandy path surrounded by lush vegetation that is fed by underground springs. In the last century, this path bordered a large lake. After passing Simone Pond, we’ll ascend to a plateau with magnificent views of the oasis and the Little San Bernardino Mountains. We’ll return to the parking lot along a broad wash below Herman’s Peak.
Anyone in good physical condition and able to walk at a moderate pace for 2 hours should enjoy this hike. We’ll meet the Coachella Valley Preserve – Thousand Palms Oasis. To reach it, go east over Highway 10 on Ramon or Washington and turn at Thousand Palms Canyon Drive. Follow that road until you go around a long curve and see the large parking lot on your left. Park on the main road across from the gate which will be locked but accessible on foot.
