EARL HENDERSON TRAIL
Not to be confused with the Randall Henderson Loop in south Palm Desert, the scenic Earl Henderson Trail runs along the Santa Rosa Mountains overlooking south Palm Springs. This is an out-and-back hike with great views of Palm Springs.
We’ll begin at the Earl Henderson Trailhead at the junction with the Garstin Trail and travels above the wash, and do a gradual climb up to about 700 feet over the desert floor. There are several brief, steep, rough pitches at the start and near the turnaround. At the turnaround point, there is a good view of the Bob Hope House, the Arthur Elrod House.
To reach the trailhead, take South Palm Canyon Drive in Palm Springs as if you’re heading for the Indian Canyons. Turn left on Bogert Trail and continue across the bridge for a total of 0.8 miles. Then turn left onto the block-long Barona Road, a residential street immediately after the bridge. Park on the street. The trailhead is inconspicuous, located a little past the last house on your right while facing the barricade at the end of the street.
