MURRAY PEAK FROM GARSTIN TRAILHEAD
Starting in South Palm Springs at the Garstin trailhead, this is one of many ways up Murray Hill/Peak. A favorite all season long with sweeping views of the valley, big horn sheep, even an occasional desert turtle can be spotted.
Plan on lunch at the top at about 10:30 AM.
8 miles with elevation gain of 2500 ft
Arrive at the trailhead at 7:55 am, be ready to go at 8:00.
Directions to the Garstin TH:
Search Google Maps for Garstin Trailhead, and it will take you right to it. Note: it is “-tin”, not “-ton”.
Here’s our description if you prefer text:
..take S Palm Canyon Dr as though you were going to Indian Canyons in Palm Springs.
..at a stop sign, turn L on E Bogert Trail (a paved street)
..wind through the lovely, flat neighborhood with many stop signs for 0.8 miles
..turn L on block-long Barona Rd (paved), which is the 1st turn after traveling on the bridge over a wash
..the inconspicuous TH is near the end of the street on your right, perhaps partly obscured by a parked vehicle
..park on either side of the street, avoiding violating the space requirements of the mailboxes and driveways
..you’ve gone too far if the street you are driving on starts going uphill
Your best chance for a discreet bio break for miles is down in the wash beyond the barricades.
