Charles winters in Palm Desert with his wife Dianne. Enjoyment of the desert weather has brought them back to the desert many times over the last 40 years. Their summer home is in New Hampshire, where he hikes with the Green Mountain Club. He enjoys hiking and pool time here and there with our son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter.
PACIFIC CREST TRAIL NORTH OF CA-74 TOWARD LIVE OAK SPRING OVERLOOK
We will hike from the PCT parking lot on the north side of CA Hwy 74, near the Paradise Cafe, and wind up through beautiful rock formations with pines and amazing overlooks, hiking towards the intersection of the PCT and Live Oak Spring trail. We’ll have lunch just south of the trail junction to enjoy expansive views of the surrounding area.
If you would like to carpool to the trailhead, meet at St. Margaret’s church parking lot (47535 CA-74, Palm Desert) at 7:30 AM. Car pools will be organized there.
If you prefer to meet at the PCT trailhead, arrive in time to be ready to hike at 8:00 AM. The GPS coordinates of the trailhead are: 33.564994, -116.576338. While the trailhead is marked, it is easy to miss. If you’re driving west on CA-74 and pass the Paradise Valley Cafe, you have overshot the trailhead by about 1 mile.
