ORIENTATION AND SELF-EVALUATION HIKE: WHAT’S YOUR PACE?
Have you wondered whether your hiking pace best matches what CVHC calls “fast” or “medium” or “slow?” This event is your opportunity to find out.
Andrew will lead a hike on the 2.5 mile Randall Henderson trail. He’ll hike different sections at different paces: fast, medium or slow. The goal is to enable Club members to assess their pace so they can describe their pace to CVHC hike leaders when they sign up for hikes.
Andrew and Margaret also will give an overview of Club practices, sign-up tips, and general desert hiking tips.
The Randall Henderson trail is an easy 2.5 mile loop rising 430 feet to a great view to the northwest. The trail is well marked and passes through washes, over ridges and along an old roadbed. Although there are a few moderately steep sections, there are no boulders to hop or dry waterfalls to surmount.
This is an easy trail with a good trail surface with a few rocks here and there. The hike will take between 1 and 2 hours. Although this is an easy hike, the trail is exposed and temperatures may be high. Remember to bring plenty of water, sun hat, and sun glasses. We will meet in the parking area where the trail begins.
The parking area is on the east side of Hwy 74, south of Palm Desert. See a roadmap here: https://maps.app.goo.gl/nhnyL4AyXRFzPgEJ8
