Spy Mountain and Giant Rock
Visit and walkabout at Giant Rock. This may be followed with a 2.5 to 3 mile moderate hike on Goat Mountain (See Separate Post)! Please contact hike leader if interested in one or both.
This is scheduled as a visit to Giant Rock at a site north of Landers. Participants are welcome to come and hear the story of Walter Critzer then explore the area themselves.
This is another in a series of historic hikes and walks. We’ll meet at an intersection north of I-10 and caravan from there to Landers. Ride sharing possible.
Was Walter a Nazi spy?
- He lived under Giant Rock with a desert air strip long enough to land bombers and fighter planes…..
- He had a tall radio antenna on top of Spy Mountain. Was it capable of communicating with the Nazis during WWII?
Join us on a walkabout at Spy Mountain and Giant Rock and find out how and why Walter Critzer died.
Group Event Duration: 1-2 hours. (Add 2 to 3 hours if adding the hike on Goat Mountain.)
