CVHC has received reports that the east side of Ladders Canyon is missing two ladders. Without ladders, descending hikers have to scramble down almost vertical, 15+ foot canyon walls or backtrack to the ladders they used for the ascent.
Hikers should not attempt downclimbing if they don’t have scrambling skills. Allow extra time to complete the hike if backtracking will be necessary. Hikers have needed help downclimbing because they didn’t allow time to backtrack before dark. Downclimbing without scrambling skills can be unsafe for the hiker and those attempting to assist.
CVHC does not have a timeline for repair/installation of the missing ladders.
