Diane and her husband Eric moved to Palm Desert in the Spring of 2024 from east Tennessee. They are year-round residents and are loving being closer to grandchildren who live in the valley! Diane is an avid hiker and backpacker, having led multiple hikes for the Smoky Mountains Hiking Club for many years, and holding a number of leadership positions in that 100 year-old organization. She thru-hiked the John Muir Trail in 2022 and is excited about living closer to the magnificent Sierra Nevadas, as well as exploring all of the hiking opportunities California has to offer!
ERNIE MAXWELL TRAIL
For those in CVHC looking for an easy hike in the cooler mountains, this Idyllwild trail is lovely. We’ll start in Humber Park at an altitude of 6400ft and hike about 2.5 miles under tall evergreens to our turn-around point, then back. The minimal climbing we do is on the return trip. A National Park Pass is required for parking, or an Adventure Pass, available here.
5 Miles round trip with Elevation gain of 700 ft. Bring at least 2 liters of water and snacks.
We’ll meet at the Humber Park parking lot at 8:30am, here .We can discuss carpooling after sign-ups.
