The Coachella Valley Hiking Club is committed to conducting enjoyable and safe hikes in our geographic area, as well as being good stewards of the desert and mountains we are fortunate to live in. Our Board, Hikers, Hike Leaders and all members believe in a community built on respect, encouragement and opportunity, where issues are addressed in a calm and professional manner.
As part of hiking with a group, hikers should:
- Sign up for the hike they want to participate in
- Describe their recent hike activity
- Mention any medical conditions they feel the leader should be aware of
- Stay with the group
- Notify the leader if they must cancel participation
- Always follow the hike leader’s and/or sweeps instructions
- Apprise the leader if they are having difficulty
- Accept an escort to return to the trailhead if they are having difficulty on the hike
Trail Etiquette:
- Uphill hikers have right-of-way) unless catching their breath
- For safety reasons, hikers should step aside for runners, bikers and horses
- Shortcuts cause trail erosion; stay on the main trail
- Leave No Trace (wrappers, tissues, micro-trash a big NO)
- As a courtesy to hikers coming up from behind, step aside
- Take dogs only on trails marked for them. Restrain them when passing hikers. Clean up after them!
