Diane and her husband Eric moved to Palm Desert in the Spring of 2024 from east Tennessee. They are year-round residents and are loving being closer to grandchildren who live in the valley! Diane is an avid hiker and backpacker, having led multiple hikes for the Smoky Mountains Hiking Club for many years, and holding a number of leadership positions in that 100 year-old organization. She thru-hiked the John Muir Trail in 2022 and is excited about living closer to the magnificent Sierra Nevadas, as well as exploring all of the hiking opportunities California has to offer!

Tahquitz Peak via Devils Slide

Hoping for some cooler temperatures in June, we’ll head up to Idyllwild to hike in the San Jacinto State Park Wilderness!

Beginning in Humber Park in Idyllwild, we’ll hike up the Devils Slide Trail to its intersection with the PCT at Saddle Junction. Then we’ll head south on the PCT to the South Ridge Trail and on to the Tahquitz Peak Lookout Tower at 8846ft. After having a snack or lunch there and taking in the gorgeous views, we’ll head back down. This is an in and out hike. Although there is alot of climbing on this hike, we’ll take frequent pauses to breathe and take in the scenery!

Meet at the Devils Slide TH in Humber Park at 8:30 am, or at St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church at 47-535 CA-74 in Palm Desert at 7:30am to arrange car pooling. The leader will obtain our Day Use trail permit. To park, each driver will need either a National Parks Pass or Adventure Day Pass, available at https://www.recreation.gov/activitypass/AP21330/order

Note: You must be a current CVHC member to hike with the club!   Join Now!

Please email the leader directly at petrillad@gmail.com to request participation in this hike, being prepared to describe your hiking experience.
