Diane and her husband Eric moved to Palm Desert in the Spring of 2024 from east Tennessee. They are year-round residents and are loving being closer to grandchildren who live in the valley! Diane is an avid hiker and backpacker, having led multiple hikes for the Smoky Mountains Hiking Club for many years, and holding a number of leadership positions in that 100 year-old organization. She thru-hiked the John Muir Trail in 2022 and is excited about living closer to the magnificent Sierra Nevadas, as well as exploring all of the hiking opportunities California has to offer!

SAN JACINTO PEAK from PS Aerial Tram
This spectacular hike is best done in summertime when the valley is so hot! We’ll meet at the Palm Springs Aerial Tram Station at 7:30 am in time to line up for the 8am Tram. Then we’ll hike to Long Valley, Round Valley and on up to Wellman Divide with its expansive views. Continuing, we’ll go another 2.7 miles to San Jacinto Peak. There is some fairly easy rock scrambling at the top. San Jacinto is the second highest mountain peak in Southern California, at 10,834 ft.
Parking for the Tram is free if you are a Coachella Valley resident, or have a summer or year-round pass. Tram tickets are $36.95 for adults and $33.95 for 65+ adults, or free if you have purchased a pass.
Please plan to spend 5.5-6 hours on this hike, not counting the tram before and after.
