CUCAMONGA PEAK

This hike starts out at Ice House Canyon and once at the junction continues to the Cucamonga Peak which is one of the six pack of peaks for Southern California (includes Baldy Mt, San Jacinto, Mt. Wilson, San Bernardino and San Gorgonio).

The first part starts out relatively flat following a flowing creek and passing old stone homes, some in tact and some just the walls.  It’s shaded, scenic and very special.  As it continues the trail becomes rocky as in medium size rocks and some skree areas where rock slides have barreled through. The path is well maintained and easy to follow although caution advised as it’s easy to turn an ankle!  There are fabulous huge rocks with unusual patterns in them along the way.  The trail then changes as it turns into the forest and starts switching backing(rather steeply) up the mountain. Once at the junction there are signs for many other trails.  Cucamonga trail sign will be slightly to your left.

It’s a little over 2 miles to the peak. A couple things to consider.  The trail after the junction gets very narrow in parts with a steep drop off to one side.  It’s very doable but needs to be noted.  Also the peak is a spur off the trail and can easily be missed.  At 8680 ft.there is a faint trail to the right that goes up while the main trail goes left and stays flat.  Go up! There is a pile of downed tree parts that will make you pause, just pay attention and know to stay to the right of the downed trees and go straight up.

Beautiful views await at the top.

12 Miles with Elevation gain of 4000 ft.
