Goat Mountain (Optional Add On Hike to Giant Rock Walkabout)
Join us on a 2.5 – 3 mile hike up Goat Mountain.
This out-and-back moderate hike is accessed via a 15-minute dirt road drive from Giant Rock to the Goat Mountain (Reche) gold mine. The entire length of the trail is rocky but the view and remnants of an old gold mine are interesting and the high desert views are fabulous.
Individuals are free to join the short hike after the talk and walkabout at Giant Rock or just return home. Four-wheel drive recommended for drive to Goat Mountain but two-wheel drive with decent clearance will work.
This is out-and-back, 210 feet elevation gain, 1-2 hours hiking time.
60 minute travel time to Giant Rock from I-10, Exit 120. Hike is north of Landers.
Group size limited to 12 hikers.
HIKE DIFFICULTY: Moderate, due to some bouldering
HIKE LEADER: Dan Coleman
HIKE LOCATOR: Landers
