Goat Mountain Hike
This is an add-on to the Giant Rock Walkabout on the same date. Interested hikers are invited to drive an additional 15 minutes to the Goat Mountain trailhead. The drive is on hard-pack dirt road and while four-wheel drive is advisable, a two-wheel drive vehicle with normal clearance can also navigate the road.
The hike is 2.25 miles out-and-back with an elevation gain of about 650 feet. Hikers will see remnants of a gold mine as well as man-made rock circles. The vistas over Landers and Homestead Valley are spectacular.
Note: The footing is consistently rocky so in addition to ‘essentials’ hikers should have poles, good tread, and good balance. It may be windy at the top so wear or bring suitable layered clothing, say 3-4 layers.
