I came to the desert because of the Tennis and then became infatuated with the hiking, biking, Pickleball, and all things not available to us outdoors in ND due to the -20 temps, Plus Deb & I became allergic to snow? We have hiked many of the trails throughout the Coachella Valley and find them all fascinating. Great exercise, get to see lots of new terrain and meet great people. What’s not to like. ND and Minnesota hiking is quite different than that offered in California.

WHITEWATER PRESERVE TO RED DOME

The hike will begin in the parking lot near the Ranger station. This moderate hike gets you acquainted with Whitewater and offers a great Canyon and Riverbed experience.

We follow the Whitewater river, the main run-off from the San Gorgonio watershed into the Coachella Valley to the Pacific Crest Trail. We go north on the PCT to an area called Red Dome. If time avails and the group wishes to add 2 miles (1 hour) we can meander on the Ridge loop as we go back to the Ranger station.

This hike is much prettier in the spring if we get a good bloom for wildflowers, but it is stunning enough now and will be good practice to do it again in March/April.

After the hike, you may wish to visit the displays in the ranger station or have a picnic lunch by the pond.

Meet in the Whitewater Preserve ranger station’s parking lot at 9160 Whitewater Canyon Road which is off Highway 10, just past the exit for Highway 62.  Washrooms are available at the trailhead.

Please email Brad to sign up for this hike. Include your phone number and a short statement about your recent hiking experience.
