Carole and Tim Atkinson are seasonal residents in wonderful Palm Desert. They spend the summer months in Calgary, Alberta where hiking the Rocky Mountains is a favorite activity. They are a retired geophysicist and geologist ……..and eager to expand their knowledge of flora and fauna in the desert. They’ve been leading hikes for over 20 years. When not exploring trails, they can be found golfing, biking, playing pickleball and enjoying the local music scene.
CHUCKWALLA LOOP
This hike is located in the rolling foothills of the Santa Rosa Mountains above Rancho Mirage and Cathedral Canyon. It starts at the Rancho Mirage City Hall, passes through the Cancer Survivors’ Park, and then winds up a ridge to the Roadrunner Trail. This path joins the Chuckwalla Trail which meanders through largely undisturbed desert hills with panoramic views of the western Coachella Valley. This is also the road that leads up to the Ritz Carlton Hotel.
Meet at the back of the Rancho Mirage City Hall parking lot (69825 CA-111, Rancho Mirage, CA 92270).
