Easy Hike

INDIAN PALMS AND BEYOND

This loop hike is in the Coachella Valley Preserve on the north side of Highway 10 (not to be confused with the Indian Canyons hike on reservation land near Palm Springs).   We’ll start by crossing a wide valley and then entering a canyon that leads to the north and south Indian Palms oases.  We’ll then do a 3 minute climb to a sandy plateau with panoramic views of the surrounding mountains.  After descending to the valley floor, we’ll follow the base of that plateau back to the trailhead.

Anyone in good physical condition and able to walk at a moderate pace for 2 hours should enjoy this hike.  We’re meeting at the Pushawalla Palms Trailhead, shown on the map below if you zoom in several times.  To reach the trailhead, cross over Highway 10 on Ramon or Washington and turn at Thousand Palms Canyon Drive.  After about 30 seconds you will pass a small parking lot on your left.   A second parking lot on your right is the one you’re looking for; it has a  kiosk that shows a map of the Pushawalla and Indian Palms trails.
