I am a Kansas City native and moved here in 2011. I joined the hiking club and fell in love with our mountains. The CVHC has made such a difference in my life. Leading hikes allows me to meet so many people and share the joy of a day spent outdoors. Between the San Jacinto, Joshua Tree, our valley, Idyllwild, and Mecca there is a lot to discover in the Palm Springs area. If not on the trail, I am most likely cooking or playing canasta or mahjong.
Location
GROTTOS IN MECCA AND THE SHEEP HOLE OASIS
This is a fun and different journey than most! In Mecca there is a cave system called the Grottos where you climb over, under and around various rock obstacles, sometime in total darkness, sometimes on your belly and sometimes through narrow confined spaces. Headlamps advised, pants advised as well as gloves and your camera.
This hike is very exposed to the sun in beginning and end so not for hot weather. The ridge walk after finishing the grotto overlooks multiple canyons and the Salton sea.
7-8 Miles with Elevation gain of 500 ft.
