ART SMITH LOOP

This is a popular “in-town” hike. This is a lollipop loop that starts by going up Art Smith from the Art Smith Trailhead off of HWY 74. We will follow Art Smith to the junction with Hopalong Cassidy and then take Hopalong west to the intersection with Shay. We will follow the Shay up to Art Smith and return to the parking area via Art Smith.  The trail gives you great views down on Big Horn’s massive homes and and across all of the valley.  What remains to be seen are mountains, cacti, trail and often times Big Horn Sheep.

This is a tricky hike on a mix of maintained and unmaintained trails. Expect bad footing, loose rocks and some exposure (ie- hill on one side, abyss on the other).

7 Miles with elevation gain of 2000 ft, no shuttle required. Expected duration: 3-4 hours. Map is here: https://caltopo.com/m/JM9F1

Hikers limited to six (6).
