JOSHUA TREE SAMPLER – CANCELED

*** THIS HIKE IS CANCELED DUE TO COLD WEATHER. Please consider joining another of our posted hikes. ***

Hike includes sites, some hidden secrets, around Ryan Ranch spanning from ancient Native American habitation times to late 1800s of cowboys, miners and ranchers and more contemporary discoveries. We’ll visit Cap Rock, one of the park’s famous boulder piles and where Gram Parson’s (legendary country rock star) body was set on fire near the rock climbers’ traverse bearing his name.  Within this portion of the park is a unique collection of gigantic boulder piles.  Frequent use by rock climbers makes this area an interesting scene.

Close-by hidden petroglyphs adorn stones near a natural rock shelter clearly used as a Native American work and habitation site proven by the presence of bedrock mortars and grinding slicks.   Few people know of this hidden area of Joshua Tree National Park.

Limited to 12 hikers.

5.25 miles with 400′ elevation gain

Please email Nancy after February 9 to join this hike and include your phone number.
