SAWMILL TRAIL
“From the Sawmill Trail parking area walk east along a dirt road, staying right at an immediate fork. In 0.2 mile at a signed junction with the Cactus Spring Trail, stay right on the Sawmill Rd. (7S01). Follow this road for 5.4 miles as it switchbacks unforgivingly up a chaparral-covered ridge.
Ribbonwoods and cacti give way to manzanitas and scrub oaks as you ascend. Watch for Steller’s jays, quail, and birds of prey along the way. Views of the Pinyon Pines community, Deep Creek’s convoluted canyon, Sugarloaf and Asbestos Mountains, and the Desert Divide and San Jacinto become more expansive as you climb. The rough road is usually passable by 4WD vehicles if you’d prefer to drive this part and shorten the hike.”
This is an in and back hike so degree of difficulty greatly reduced if you just do a few miles in and turn around!!
16 Miles with Elevation gain of 3900 ft.
