Bird-Walk at Sunnylands
Join us for a morning walk around the historic Sunnylands estate where hundreds of tree species allow nesting and roosting for birds as small as hummingbirds and as large as Red-tailed Hawks and Great-horned Owls. Low-water meadow grasses that replaced 60 acres of turf have become a favorite of ground nesters, while heron, egrets, and waterfowl crowd the lakes and streams during the peak migrations in the spring and fall. The guided walk will take about 1 hour but participants can stay longer.
The walk will be led by Kurt Leuschner. Kurt has been a frequent lecturer to our club and he is a phenomenal story teller. Kurt has an MS in Wildlife Ecology and is a Professor of Natural Resources.
The free bird walk is offered at 8:45 am and is open to the public. No reservations required. Binoculars are recommended. Remember to bring sun protection, water, and comfortable closed-toed shoes.
