Chaparrosa Spring Loop from Sawtooth Mountains Trailhead – DOG FRIENDLY
This is a new hike that does NOT include hiking to the spring. This hike follows the Sawtooth Loop from the parking lot trailhead to the Chaparrosa Spring Loop which we will hike counterclockwise. It’s about 3.8 miles starting at 4200 feet of elevation and includes about 400 feet of elevation gain over some rolling hills with steps and sandy slopes. We should finish the hike in under 2 hours.
Bring the usual 10 essentials including at least a liter of water as it’s cool but very dry there. Poles will be very helpful on the sandy slopes. The trails are good but still display water damage from the September storm.
We will meet in the parking lot near Denny’s at I-10 and 20th Ave at 9:20 am to organize a carpool to the Chaparrosa Spring trailhead.
For those interested, the Red Dog Tavern in Pioneertown offers inexpensive tacos and snacks and a variety of drinks along with outside seating.
Dogs welcome! Dogs must be friendly to humans and other dogs and have to be on leash at all times, no exceptions.
IF YOU ARE BRINGING YOUR DOG, PLEASE CALL. OTHERWISE, PLEASE EMAIL AND INCLUDE YOUR CELL PHONE NUMBER.
